Before and After Rhinoplasty: Things to Know

Getting a nose job can be overwhelming. Even if you have sustained an injury and are trusting the best surgeon for your rhinoplasty in Dubai, the nervousness is real. After all, it is a surgical procedure.

Contrary to what people may believe, it’s not entirely up to the surgeons that are performing the process. Patients have a considerable role in ensuring that the best results are there to stay. How?

Let’s consider things everyone should know to ensure the best results before and after getting a nose job:

Before the Surgery:

Rather than realising or in worse cases, regretting later, make sure you have done proper research. One can make the mistake of either underestimating or overestimating the surgery. That is why it’s crucial you know the essentials about the operation before getting it.

Types of Rhinoplasty Surgeries:

There are two types of cosmetic nose jobs:

  •       Open Rhinoplasty
  •       Closed Rhinoplasty

Differences in Procedure:

The difference between both these surgeries relates to the location of incisions. In closed rhinoplasties, there are no incisions on the exterior of the nose. Whereas, in open rhinoplasty surgeries, the surgeons have to make an incision depending upon the type of procedure and the area of treatment.

Differences in Recovery:

It’s crucial to note that all types of surgeries have variable recovery times depending upon the type of treatment. Moreover, also affecting recovery time is the technique of the surgeon.

Having established that, most closed rhinoplasty surgeries usually involve a lesser time to heal. Since the procedure mostly focuses on the inside, you’ll have splints supporting the nose structure for a week.

As for open surgeries, there will be a lot of swelling, but painkillers will take care of the pain. This swelling can last for 2-3 weeks, again, depending upon the procedure. Furthermore, if the process involves extensive reshaping, total recovery can span for even a year.

Result Expectations:

Before getting a nose job, you must understand that the time it takes for results to show varies fully. Not only can it take a whole year to show results fully, but there are also chances you might have to get a revision. Revision rhinoplasty takes place when there are complications in the results or when clients aren’t happy with the results. Consult your doctor and wait for a specific period before considering a revision. However, the chances of being unsatisfied are significantly low if you get rhinoplasty in Dubai as some of the top plastic surgeons offer their services here.

You should know that some minor changes, such as removing a bump on the surface, don’t require complicated rhinoplasty surgeries. Fillers such as dermal fillers injected into the nose tip can help these minor changes even though they’re temporary. Again, consult your surgeon and have a detailed discussion before you go for something permanent.

After the Surgery:

Here’s a detailed summary of what you can expect after the surgery:

First Week:

The splint inside the nose will be removed after your surgeon performs a checkup, and everything is okay. No apparent signs of bruising will be visible unless you have bruises around your eyes. That can last for another week. Although you can resume daily life activities, you need to avoid exercise and strenuous physical activity.

Second Week:

The swelling of the face will no longer be there. Similarly, signs of bruises should go away as well.

Third and Fourth Week:

Your nose will be in great shape, and you can go for physical exercises that put a strain on the nose such as swimming, jogging, cycling, etc.

Sixth Week:

You can blow your nose now. Furthermore, you can also engage in weight lifting exercises and wear glasses.

Quarter to Half a Year:

At this stage, you shouldn’t be feeling the awkward sensations in your nose anymore. Your nasal skin should also start to appear normal.

A Year After Surgery:

The nose should have nothing but faded incision lines marking the area of operation. A year is the most time a surgery needs for a full recovery.

Precautions to Take During this Time:

Although the recovery is natural, there are more precautions you need to exercise than just not damaging your nose. Here’s a detailed list of things to do after your surgery:

  •       Apply cold compresses on the cheeks and not directly on the nose
  •       Nothing should touch the nose directly.
  •       Avoid blowing your nose.
  •       Adopt a healthy nutrient-rich diet involving eggs, yoghurt, fish, nuts and meat.
  •       Keep your head elevated at all times. Use pillows or headrests if necessary.
  •       Avoid heat and anything that can worsen the wounds and bruises. Stay in a cool atmosphere and avoid the sun.
  •       It is recommended to avoid smoking before and after getting the surgery.
  •       Don’t wear glasses or engage in exercises.

Consult your cosmetic surgeons regularly. If you feel anything you didn’t feel before, call them up. They must know what you’re going through.
