Facelift surgery, also known as Rhytidectomy, improves signs of aging to help restore a more youthful face and neck. This procedure is generally performed on men and women over the age of 40. As we age, our skin loses collagen, elasticity & volume. This can result in jowls, lower face sagging, & loose skin on the neck. A facelift procedure will help lift and tighten the deep facial tissues, allowing a patient to both look and feel younger.

FACELIFT OPTIONS

Facelift Types

Standard Facelift

A standard or “traditional” facelift will more fully address moderate to advanced aging around the mid-face and neck. This surgery is more extensive than a MACS lift or mini facelift and thus more recovery time is required. Incisions located just behind the hairline, and around the front of the ear, hidden in the natural folds, can allow your surgeon to reposition the deeper tissues beneath the skin and remove excess skin to smooth creases, eliminate jowling and sagging skin under the chin.

Mini-Facelift (MACS lift)

The MACS lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension) or mini facelift, also known as the short scar lift, is designed to address a mild degree of jowling and sagging. Only a limited amount of excess skin needs to be removed, and there will be only an inconspicuous scar in the crease in the front of the ear and in the hairline above the ear, hidden in the natural folds. This less invasive procedure allows your surgeon to tighten deep facial tissues through

COMMON CONCERNS

Recovery

After the procedure, your face will be bandaged. Patients can expect tightness or numbness of the cheeks, face and neck. Also bruising and swelling which will be at its peak 48 hours after the operation. This generally subsides 10 – 14 days. As it is not a breast or body procedure and is therefore more noticeable, your surgeon may advise you to wear makeup to help camouflage whilst you heal and recover.

You may return to normal daily activities after about 2 weeks, although more strenuous exercise may take up to about a month. It is crucial to practice safe sun protection during this time. These timelines may vary depending on the type of facelift you undergo.

(Every patient is a unique individual and every surgery has unique aspects. Therefore no two procedures or rejuvenation treatments will get the exact same results. Individual results vary from patient to patient.)

Scars

Scars will continue to refine & will vary amongst patients depending on their natural healing process & location of incisions. Scars are generally refined to fine incision lines one year after surgery.

Pain

Tightness & swelling are normal experiences post facelift procedures. Pain medication and muscle relaxants will help you cope with any discomfort.
